Solid Quilting Fabrics for your Favorite WNBA Team

Are you looking to make a basketball-inspired quilt for your favorite basketball fan? Or maybe a quilty bag, pouch or pillow but don't know which solid fabric colors will be closest to your team colors?

This resource is a list of solid fabrics from Robert Kaufman's Kona Cotton collection and Moda's Bella Solids collection based on each WNBA team's brand colors. The reason I chose these two lines of solid fabrics is that they contain the most robust range of colors.

While it's always difficult to exactly translate a hex code to fabric, these options should get you the closest if you're unable to review the fabrics in person.

And if you're looking for the perfect basketball quilt pattern to showcase your team's colors, be sure to check out the Nothin' But Net quilt pattern below. You can also read more about the quilt pattern in this blog post.

Gathering Each Team's Colors

Here's how I gathered the fabric colors for each team listed:

Using the HEX codes from each team’s official branding (found at trucolor.net), I looked up the closest fabric colors on the Fabric Color Picker database found at fabric.alisongale.com

To cross-reference these colors, I also used Adobe Illustrator and the pre-loaded Kona Cotton colors imported from quiltysolid.com to compare to the hex codes.

Once I had a list of Kona cotton fabrics that were closest to the hex codes, I referenced the Kona to Bella conversion chart from Moda and also personally compared Moda’s Bella Solids swatches to find the closest matches for those that were not listed on the conversion chart.

Mockups and Colors for all 15 WNBA Teams

A few notes about the mockups shown:

  • The quilt pattern used to mockup each team's colors is the Nothin' But Net quilt which uses 4 colors in the pattern.

  • Color codes in the circle represent the team's HEX code

  • Shown to the right of the HEX code is both the Kona color and Bella Solids color that most closely matches the HEX code

  • Colors are listed in the order they are listed in the Nothin' But Net pattern (Color 1 is at the top).

  • If a circle does not have a HEX code listed, it is because it is not listed "officially" on the team's main brand color list (it may be listed as a secondary color though). I have added the additional color to the mockup for a better distribution of color in the quilt pattern.

  • Some teams have more than 4 colors so I've also included any colors not shown in the mockup below the 4 colors used in the mockup.

Teams are shown in alphabetical order below.
